Every child deserves the opportunity to enjoy the water safely. This engaging 30-minute info session provides families, caregivers, educators, and community members with practical strategies to help prevent drowning and improve water safety for autistic and neurodivergent individuals. Join Mary Kavaney, ASAP Swim Director & Tracy Schober, ASGHR Executive Director for an information session at the Bethlehem YMCA, in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Participants will learn:

  • Why autistic individuals are at an increased risk of wandering and drowning.
  • Common water safety risks and how to reduce them at home and in the community.
  • Layers of protection, including supervision, barriers, alarms, and emergency planning.
  • How swim lessons and water familiarization build confidence and lifesaving skills.
  • Essential drowning prevention strategies every family should know.
  • What to do if a child goes missing near water.
  • Community resources, adaptive swim programs, and safety tools available to support families.

This workshop empowers participants with knowledge, practical tips, and resources they can immediately implement to help keep their loved ones safer around water. Whether you are a parent, caregiver, educator, first responder, or community member, you’ll leave with valuable information that can help prevent tragedy and save lives.
