ASAP: Autism Swims Aquatics Program
Swim Program for Neurodiverse Kids
Many children on the spectrum have a natural affinity for water. The sensory aspects of swimming—the soothing feel of water, the calming rhythm of movement—make it an ideal activity for neurodiverse children. However, the statistics are sobering: children on the spectrum are at a much higher risk of drowning than their neurotypical peers. That’s why swim safety and lessons are so essential.
At the Autism Society Greater Hudson Region (ASGHR), we understand how challenging it can be to find swim programs tailored to neurodiverse kids. That’s why, in 2022, we launched ASAP: Autism Swims Aquatics Program.
What Is ASAP?
ASAP is a swim program designed specifically for neurodiverse children. Run entirely by dedicated volunteers, the program provides one-on-one instruction within a supportive group setting. Our instructors have experience teaching children on the spectrum and use methods designed to create a safe and enjoyable environment.
We are always seeking:
- Volunteers interested in learning how to teach swim lessons to neurodiverse kids.
- Certified lifeguards willing to donate their time.
Program Details
- When: Sundays, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
- Where: JCC or Bethlehem Middle School

Scholarships may be available for families in need. If affordability is a concern, please email [email protected].
